ABACUS Joins The 100 Club of Houston to Support Families of First Responders
HOUSTON, Oct. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- ABACUS Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electrical is proud to announce they have become a Business Lifetime Member of The 100 Club of Houston, which is a non-profit organization. The organization financially rescues the dependents of firefighters and law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty by paying their debts and providing an education for their children.
"Abacus is proud to support The 100 Club," stated Alan O'Neill, CEO of Abacus Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electrical in Houston. "In this day and age when our officers who put their lives on the line to protect the citizens of our great city and country seem to be under-appreciated, Abacus is proud to show its support by becoming a Business Lifetime Member of The 100 Club."
William Skeen, Deputy Executive Director or The 100 Club said, "The 100 Club is proud of the support from Abacus Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electrical for becoming our newest Business Lifetime Member. Through their membership, they support our missions of providing for the dependents of law enforcement officers and firefighters, purchasing life saving equipment and scholarships. Since 1953 individuals and businesses like Abacus have helped us to fulfill this critical mission."
The 100 club was initiated in 1953, when 100 men each gave $100 to be used to assist the families of Houston police officers killed in the line of duty. The effort put forth by these men has developed into over a half-century of support for families of fallen law enforcement officers and firefighters in Houston and 17 surrounding counties as well as several statewide agencies. Today, The 100 Club of Houston has grown to more than 29,500 members and ABACUS Plumbing, Air Conditioning & Electrical is proud to be among those counted in supporting them.
ABACUS stands with them in supporting The 100 Club's mission: (1) survivor support, assisting with funeral expenses, paying off an existing mortgage on the family home, and assistance with the educational costs of the deceased's children; (2) life protecting equipment for law enforcement; and (3) scholarship support for law enforcement. In 2012, survivor support exceeded $1.7 million; life protecting equipment for law enforcement was over $144,000; and scholarship support for law enforcement was $252,500. To date, over $34.4 million has been collected and dispersed.
