AARP Seeking New York State Nominees For Distinguished Community Service Award
Winner Will Receive $3,000 for Non-Profit of Their Choice
NEW YORK, June 3, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AARP is now accepting nominations for its 2015 New York State Andrus Award for Community Service, which honors 50+ New Yorkers who are making a significant difference in their communities.
"AARP New York is excited to shine a light on New Yorkers age 50 and over who are using what they've learned in life to make a difference in the lives around them," said Beth Finkel, State Director of AARP in New York. "We invite New Yorkers from across the state to nominate a volunteer in their community who is doing extraordinary community service work that should be recognized and celebrated."
The Andrus Award is AARP's most prestigious and visible volunteer award for community service. It recognizes individuals who are sharing their experience, talent and skills to enrich their communities in ways that are consistent with AARP's mission, vision, and commitment to volunteer service, and that inspire others to volunteer.
The award honors Ethel Percy Andrus, whose motto "to serve, not to be served" continues to shape AARP's work more than 50 years after she founded it to help older Americans age with dignity and purpose.
The winning nominee will receive $3,000 to donate to the non-profit organization of their choice.
Nominations will be evaluated by a team of volunteers based on how the volunteer's work has improved the community, supported AARP's vision and mission, and inspired other volunteers. The award recipient will be announced in early fall.
Nominations are open until July 17 for any New Yorker age 50 or older. To nominate someone for the Andrus Award in New York visit www.aarp.org/andrusaward to submit an online nomination and to find more information about the award. AARP membership is not required to enter or win.
To receive a nomination form by e-mail or mail, contact Jo Park, Associate State Director at AARP New York at [email protected].
