What: AARP Foundation has created the 2016 Aging in Place $50k Challenge. This competition will award $50,000 to an innovative startup developing solutions that can help low-income individuals 50-plus continue living safely, independently and comfortably in functional and affordable homes as they age.
When: Applications are being accepted through May 2 at 5:00 PM EST, and the winner will be announced in July 2016.
Where: Entrepreneurs can click here to complete the application through May 2.
Why: The vast majority of people want to remain in their homes and communities for as long as possible. More than 19 million low-income 50-plus households struggle with unaffordable or inadequate housing and we must act now to implement innovative housing solutions. This design competition will help fuel solutions that will help address our nation's housing needs.
Background: The 2016 Aging in Place $50k Challenge is part of the AARP Foundation Prize which seeks out promising ideas to help solve the problems so many low-income older adults face as they age. This program provides cash awards to entrepreneurs to help fund innovative solutions serving low-income individuals aged 50 and older, with respect to housing, income, health and isolation.
