AARP Appoints Fred Teng To Top Advisory Post In New York State

Communications and Business Executive Joins AARP NY Executive Council to guide AARP efforts on behalf of 2.5 million members in NY State

NEW YORK, Jan. 31, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AARP New York recently appointed Fred Teng to its Executive Council, which is the organization's volunteer advisory body for New York State. Currently the Chief Executive Officer of China Newsweek Corporation, which publishes NewsChina magazine, Mr. Teng has an extensive background in communications, public relations and finance.

As part of the Executive Council, Mr. Teng will serve in an advisory role to set strategic priorities and represent the organization's 2.5 million members and more than 5,000 volunteers in New York State.

Before joining China Newsweek Corporation, Mr. Teng served as the Senior Vice President of Corporate Development for Multicultural Radio Broadcasting, Inc. (MRBI), and as General Manager of Sino Television, Inc., an affiliated company of MRBI.

His executive experience in the communications field includes serving as President of DVS New York, LLC, founding and serving as President of Noble Communications Group, Inc., and from 1993 to 1999, serving as the National Director of Public Relations and Director of Marketing Communications in charge of U.S. Asian Markets at AT&T.

Mr. Teng spent over a decade in the financial industry, first with Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner & Smith, followed by Oppenheimer & Co, where he led the launch of Oppenheimer's financial services into the Asian market.

Mr. Teng currently holds a number of high profile international and business advisory positions, including serving the Special U.S. Representative for China-United States Exchange Foundation, Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of New York, and President of the National U.S. Hong King Business Associations. He serves on the East West Institute's President Advisory Group, is an Honorary Fellow of the Foreign Policy Association, and is the Chairman of DIAGEO's Marketing Advisory Board.

Some of his past appointments include advisory and leadership roles with the Chinatown YMCA, the Chinese American Planning Council, and the Organization of Chinese Americans. In 2003, Mr. Teng was appointed by the President to serve on the National Advisory Board of the Small Business Development Centers, and in 2004, he was appointed by the Mayor to serve on New York City's Minority Women Business Advisory Board.

Mr. Teng has been honored for his work and service to the community and is a recipient of the Ellis Island Medal of Honor and the New York State Governor's award for Community Leadership. He is regularly sought after for expert commentary on U.S.-China relations, and has had articles published in several media outlets.

Mr. Teng received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Baruch College, City University of New York, and attended Columbia University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. He has also completed an executive management program at Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Business.
