Japanese American military heroes receive prestigious, national recognition for World War II service
WASHINGTON, Nov. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Leading up to Veteran's Day, AARP today announced its support of the National Veterans Network, a coalition of 25 Japanese American veteran and civic organizations to honor Japanese American soldiers for their dedicated and decorated service during World War II.

On Nov. 2, AARP hosted a special Congressional Gold Medal replica presentation at the Washington Hilton. The U.S. Army's 100th Infantry Battalion, the 442nd Regimental Combat Team and the Military Intelligence Service were honored for their accomplishments in World War II.
According to the U.S. House of Representatives website, since the American Revolution, Congress has commissioned gold medals as its highest expression of national appreciation for distinguished achievements and contributions. Each medal honors a particular individual, institution, or event.
