AAPPO Urges House Passage of Health Care Repeal
Leading Preferred Provider Group Urges Bipartisan Action in Senate
WASHINGTON, Jan. 19, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The American Association of Preferred Provider Organizations (AAPPO) is urging Members of the House of Representatives to support H.R. 2, the repeal of the health care law passed last year as well as its supporting resolutions, and is urging swift bipartisan action in the Senate as well.
AAPPO, the nation's leading advocacy association for preferred provider organizations, has written a letter to House Speaker Boehner in support of his efforts to not only repeal what it sees as a deeply flawed statute, but to replace its more onerous components with market-based solutions that will better meet the original intentions of lowering costs and reforming medical liability while expanding coverage and improving care.
"The first rule of reforming health care should be, 'First, do no harm.' But since this bill became law, we have seen employers scale back coverage, premiums increase and more than half of the states in the country join lawsuits contesting the constitutionality of the individual mandate," said Karen Greenrose, AAPPO President and CEO. "While the PPO industry supports many of the protections that the current law provides, like extending dependent coverage and safeguards for those with preexisting conditions, our members support its repeal because they feel there is no way to fix the many flaws in the law without pressing the 'reset' button."
AAPPO remains committed to working with lawmakers from both sides of the aisle to help identify constructive policies that will truly lower costs through increased competition, preserve the protections Americans need and extend coverage to the uninsured.
