ROSEMONT, Ill., May 16, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Whether volunteering their surgical skills in the United States or in underserved communities around the world, oral and maxillofacial surgeons play an important and active role in surgical healthcare missions. To honor this spirit of volunteerism, the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and the Henry Schein Cares Foundation have partnered to create the Global Outreach Program, which provides grants to support OMSs who work to save the faces and lives of vulnerable patients worldwide.
Now in its second year, the Program provides four $2,500 cash grants to help offset the expenses of four oral and maxillofacial surgeons planning to volunteer on a US or international healthcare mission. In addition, Recipients will be able to select up to $2,000 in products from the Henry Schein catalog for use during their Mission.
Applications for the program will be accepted through Friday, August 5, 2016. Selected recipients will be notified on Friday, September 20, 2016. For more information, including rules, applications, and timeline, please visit http://www.aaoms.org/GlobalOutreach.
"Oral pathology and disease are not confined by national borders or prosperity," said AAOMS President Dr. Lou Rafetto. "Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are among the first to volunteer their surgical skills on dental and medical missions that treat indigent and underserved patients around the world. The AAOMS – Henry Schein Cares Foundation Global Outreach Program recognizes their important contributions to the health and welfare of patients around the globe. We are proud to work with an organization that shares our commitment to surgically treating the faces, mouths and jaws of patients in need."
"The work performed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons is nothing less than life-changing, and it is incredibly rewarding to be able to support their efforts to treat our society's most vulnerable patients," said Steven W. Kess, President of the Henry Schein Cares Foundation, Inc. "The Henry Schein Cares Foundation is dedicated to 'helping health happen' by supporting practitioners who give of their time and talent to helping our society's most vulnerable patients, and we look forward to continuing that support with this year's grant recipients."
