AAHC Holds Second Graduate Medical Education Regional Roundtable at the University of Utah
WASHINGTON, April 6, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC) will hold the second of its regional roundtable series on graduate medical education (GME) reform this Thursday, April 9, at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The roundtable discussion will be chaired by Vivian S. Lee, PhD, MD, MBA, CEO, University of Utah Health Care, and Kristen Verderame, director of government relations for AAHC.
"Because academic health centers educate the bulk of the nation's healthcare professionals, their input is essential to any discussion on GME reform," said Dr. Wartman, CEO and president of AAHC. "We continue to gather important feedback from our members, which is necessary to mobilize a thorough response on this critical issue."
The GME roundtable series, developed at the request of AAHC members, will bring together GME experts from six regions across the U.S., including the leadership of academic health centers as well as local stakeholders, to identify and discuss potential regional aspects and the impact of GME reform. The first roundtable was held at Emory University in March.
The group will specifically consider the current GME system in light of evolving healthcare delivery models and the desire to incentivize innovation necessary to meet future healthcare needs. While AAHC has not taken a position on GME reform per se, the Association believes that any reform of the GME system must be considered as part of a national health strategy that will play an increasingly important role in care delivery in the 21st century.
The Association of Academic Health Centers is a non-profit association dedicated to advancing the nation's health and well-being through the vigorous leadership of academic health centers.
