AAHC Holds Graduate Medical Education (GME) Regional Roundtable in Washington, DC
WASHINGTON, June 29, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Association of Academic Health Centers (AAHC) will hold the fourth of its regional roundtable series on graduate medical education (GME) reform this Wednesday, July 1, at its offices in Washington, DC. The roundtable discussion will be chaired by Steven A. Wartman, MD, PhD, AAHC president and CEO.
"Our members and other thought leaders will continue the ongoing discussion related to the future of GME in order to obtain a thorough and reasoned perspective on this critical issue," said AAHC President Dr. Wartman. "The regional roundtable series offers highly nuanced viewpoints to enlighten our national perspective on GME."
The GME roundtable series, developed at the request of AAHC members, brings together GME experts from seven regions across the United States—including the leadership of academic health centers as well as local stakeholders—to identify and discuss many aspects of GME. Roundtables thus far have been held at Emory University in Atlanta, the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, and the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
The roundtable in Washington is the fourth of seven regional roundtables that specifically consider the current GME system in light of evolving healthcare delivery models and the desire to spur innovation necessary to meet future healthcare needs. While AAHC has not taken a position on GME reform per se, the Association believes that any reform of the GME system must be considered as part of a national health strategy that will play an increasingly important role in care delivery in the 21st century.
AAHC is a non-profit association dedicated to advancing the nation's health and well-being through the vigorous leadership of academic health centers. For more information, contact Angela Mills, amills_(@)_aahcdc.org.
