AACSB International Launches Website to Initiate Global Exchange on the Future of Business Education
TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 27, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- AACSB International (AACSB), the longest serving global accrediting body and membership association for business schools, today announced the launch of www.AACSB.edu/Vision, a website dedicated to encouraging, facilitating, and curating a global conversation to envision the future for business education.
Led by AACSB, and with collaboration and input from the business community, higher education community, and other business education stakeholders, this effort is grounded in a need to understand the shifting roles of management and the evolving expectations of management education across the globe.
"As AACSB prepares to celebrate 100 years of management education leadership in April 2016, the time is ripe for envisioning the future for business schools and the management education industry," said Thomas R. Robinson, president and chief executive officer of AACSB International. "Over the next several months, through the engagement of AACSB members and numerous stakeholder organizations, a new vision for management education will emerge. This vision will challenge global business schools to examine their relationship to society, the business community, and the higher education landscape, within their respective contexts."
Through the new website, AACSB hopes to challenge business schools to explore new models and strategies that promote effective and ethical business principles and bring about economic, environmental, and personal well-being for all populations around the world.
By asking stakeholders to envision the future and share their insights, AACSB intends to establish a guiding framework for all schools that encourages as many variations in approaches to business and management education as there are different industries, systems, and cultures around the globe.
"Although the world's business schools have evolved within different conditions and contexts, for the last 50 years the prevailing vision has been defined by the need to strengthen the scholarly foundation of business degree education," said Santiago Iñiguez de Onzoño, incoming chair of the AACSB Board of Directors; president of IE University; and dean of IE Business School in Madrid, Spain. "But the environment is different now. It is more global, dynamic, and uncertain; and it is changing still. The time is right to challenge assumptions, to rethink systems and plant the seeds for cultural change."
AACSB is pursuing this objective in collaboration with its global business school membership—nearly 1500 business schools representing 89 countries and territories—as well as with collaboration and input from the business community, higher education community, and other business education stakeholders.
