AAA Michigan Participates in Detroit's 'Brightmoor Community Festival'
DEARBORN, Mich., May 15 /PRNewswire/ -- AAA Michigan employees volunteered their time and expertise today (May 15, 2010) at the "Brightmoor Community Festival" in Detroit. The more than 30 volunteers continued AAA's nearly century-long history of volunteering and giving back to the community, as employees participated in a number of safety efforts in the local neighborhood.
AAA trained technicians etched VIN (Vehicle Identification Numbers) on cars to help deter vehicle theft. Area residents took virtual rides in AAA's state-of-the art driving simulator to test their driving skills. Mature drivers took part in CarFit, a 12-point check to determine how well they and their vehicle worked together.
AAA employees joined staffers from the Detroit Police Department and Children's Hospital to assist children with other safety offerings, including bike helmet safety fittings (children ages three and up received a free bicycle helmet while supplies lasted) and child safety seat inspections.
The activities were part of the Brightmoor Community Festival and 23rd Annual May Day Parade which kicks off a week of events to promote community awareness and pride in the Brightmoor community.
AAA Michigan has been working with residents and community leaders in the Brightmoor Community on safety concerns. The Skillman Foundation has made significant investment in the community as part of its "Good Neighborhoods" program.
AAA Michigan has been involved in driving safety since its founding nearly a century ago, with activities including the AAA School safety patrol and road safety improvement programs. AAA Michigan offers travel, insurance and financial services to more than 1.6 million members in Michigan
