DEARBORN, Mich., July 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 150 AAA Michigan executives and their partners -- including residents on Burt Road and Mid Point Construction workers -- volunteered their time and "sweat equity" to "Clean and Keep" homes on Burt Road, located in Northwest Detroit's Brightmoor Community, today (July 11).

AAA Michigan joined in the community's ongoing resolution to "take back" their neighborhood by removing blight. Thursday's partnership program included six blocks along Burt Road, with the three partners boarding up vacant houses and painting and repairing homes on Burt Road, between Fenkell and Schoolcraft avenues. As part of AAA's annual "Leadership Day of Service" to the community, volunteers also planted flowers at the homes of participating residents, and several businesses and organizations.
The partnership program continued AAA's nearly century-long history of volunteering and giving back to the community. AAA has partnered with residents in the Brightmoor Community for several years, with projects including improvements to Eliza Howell Park and helping to build a playground for area youngsters.
Volunteers also gathered at the nearby Brightmoor Community Center, located at 14451 Burt Road, to assemble 400 Red Cross Comfort kits for area residents in case of an emergency. The group assisted with summer school projects and various projects at the YMCA Detroit Leadership Academy in the Brightmoor Community school.
"It's important for us to step out from behind our desks and work as a team in our community," said AAA Michigan President Steve Wagner.
"The Brightmoor residents have proven to be great partners over the years," Wagner added. "We are proud of our history of volunteer service at AAA." AAA's history of community service dates back to 1919, when AAA Michigan established the first School Safety Patrol.
AAA Michigan has been working with residents and community leaders in the Brightmoor Community on traffic safety concerns, including sponsoring the Gompers AAA School Safety Patrol.
AAA Michigan has been active in driving safety since its founding nearly a century ago, with activities including teen driving safety and road safety improvement programs. AAA Michigan offers travel, insurance and financial services to more than 1.5 million members in Michigan.
