AURORA, Ill., June 5, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Gas price averages for Illinois and Indiana are continuing on a high streak. While much of the rest of the U.S. has dropped in prices, Illinois, Indiana and the Midwest prices are increasing. In May in Illinois, gas prices averaged $3.95, which was up $.16 from April and up $.07 from a year ago. In northern Indiana, gas prices averaged $4.00 in May, which is up $.25 from April and up $.09 from May 2012.
"Gas prices in Illinois, Indiana and the Midwest continue to increase largely due to refinery issues in Illinois and northern Indiana," said Beth Mosher, AAA Chicago spokesperson. "These issues have significantly disrupted supply for the region and have sent prices higher. We do expect to see prices ease up toward the end of June when the refinery issues are scheduled to be resolved and supply return to comfortable levels."
