AAA and Detroit Tigers Team Up for 'Teen Driving Safety Weekend' at Comerica Park May 28-29
One lucky teen will win the honor of throwing out ceremonial first pitch at each game, along with four free game tickets
DEARBORN, Mich., May 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Car crashes end more teen lives every day than cancer, suicide and homicide combined. That's why AAA Michigan and the Detroit Tigers are partnering to offer special "AAA and Detroit Tigers Safe Teen Driving Weekend" at Comerica Park on Friday and Saturday, May 28-29 – Memorial Day weekend and the start of the summer driving season.
The two organizations are encouraging safe driving by giving teens the opportunity to win four Tigers game tickets, head down on the field to watch batting practice before the game and throw out the first pitch. The winner each night will also receive an autographed Tigers baseball. Teens should enter for a chance to win by texting AAA to 97136. Entry deadline is May 23. The contest is being promoted by radio stations 98.7 AMP and 97.1 The Ticket.
In recognition of "Teen Driving Safety Weekend," teens and their families will pay $10 per ticket for seats at Comerica Park in Sections 210-219, $5 off the regular $15 price. Tickets will be sold to the first 1,000. To purchase discounted Tigers tickets, visit: http://detroit.tigers.mlb.com/det/ticketing/baseballbuddies.jsp?loc=aaa
Teens will also have the opportunity to test their driving skills at two of AAA's driving simulators, which will be operating from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and prior to the 7:05 p.m. start times for the Tiger's games vs. the Oakland Athletics on May 28 and 29. Representatives for the AAA Driving School will be at Comerica Park to answer questions from teens and their families and provide teen driving safety literature both days.
"AAA has been involved in teen driving safety since we were formed in 1902," said AAA Traffic Safety Manager Jack Peet. "We've been very active in helping to get laws enacted which help make teens safer drivers. We provide a variety of educational materials to teens and their families to help them be safer drivers."
AAA also encourages parents to play a leading role in developing their teen driver through regular dialogue, selecting a quality driving school, using a parent-teen driving contract, extensive practice driving and choosing a safe vehicle for their new teen driver.
