AAA and Detroit Tigers team up for "Teen Driving Safety Night" at Comerica Park May 24

DEARBORN, Mich., May 3, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens.  That's why AAA Michigan and the Detroit Tigers are partnering to offer a special "AAA and Detroit Tigers Teen Driving Safety Night" at Comerica Park on Friday, May 24 – at the start of the summer driving season.  The Tigers will host the Minnesota Twins at 7:08 p.m.

The two organizations are encouraging safe driving by giving teens the opportunity to win four Tigers game tickets, head down on the field to watch batting practice before the game and throw out the first pitch.  The grand prize winner will also receive an autographed Tigers baseball.   Two first-place winners will win four tickets to the game and an autographed ball.

To enter the contest, teens can visit AAA.com/Baseball.  Entry deadline is midnight, May 15.

To help new teen drivers and their families learn more about driving safety, AAA will have two driving simulators at the ball park during the May 24 game.

In addition, the first 5,000 teens to enter the ballpark prior to the game will receive a free AAA-Detroit Tigers keepsake key ring.  Gates open at 5:30 p.m. 

AAA Michigan has been involved in teen driving safety for a century, with efforts including encouraging legislators to pass laws which help make teens safer drivers.  Successful laws include a new law this year which prohibits novice teen drivers from talking on cell phones while driving.

AAA encourages parents to play a leading role in developing their teen driver through regular dialogue, selecting a quality driving school, using a parent-teen driving contract, extensive practice driving and choosing a safe vehicle.
