BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Nov. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The 20th annual Jack's Biscuit Bake-Off is in full swing, as bakers fight to be called the South's biscuit champion. As they have since 1999, biscuit makers from each of the 158 stores put their best biscuits up against one another in area competition from October 17 – 23. Judges score each biscuit's size, texture, color, and more as they look for the perfect combination of light, fluffy interior and flaky, delicious exterior.
From area competition, 33 winners competed in five regional competitions the week of October 24; these five regional champions are headed to Jack's headquarters for the 2018 Company Bake-Off, to be covered live by Jeh Jeh Pruitt of Fox6 on November 8, 2018:
- Debra Chastain - #250 Argo
- Tony Cook - #205 Jemison
- Pam Begley #204 Tuscumbia
- Kaneisa Elliot -#233 Huntsville
- Kendra Ellard- #089 Centre
In addition to valuable bragging rights, the Biscuit Champion will receive $1,000.
"The Jack's biscuit maker is the first to arrive each morning – usually around 4 a.m.," according to Jake Taylor, VP of Marketing. "Each morning, our biscuits are scratch-made from four simple ingredients - flour, buttermilk, butter and love. You won't find any pre-made biscuits out of a frozen cardboard box in our kitchens. Our biscuit makers take great pride in their hand-crafted art, which explains why our biscuits are the best in the South."
This year's competition will also feature a Jack's Super Fan as Guest Judge. Fans of Jack's will use social media to identify themselves as a Jack's Super Fan and make their case.
