A Time to Recommit, Not Celebrate: On The Issues and Merle Hoffman Release Special Issue for Roe v. Wade's 40th Anniversary
NEW YORK, Jan. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- As the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade approaches this month, On The Issues Magazine is launching a special magazine issue on reproductive rights and justice in recognition of the landmark Supreme Court decision, and as a call to people across the globe to reignite the fight for reproductive freedom.
After the recent unnecessary and tragic death of Indian woman Savita Halappanavar who was denied a life-saving abortion in Ireland, American and Irish authors, activists and artists come together for this issue to take on the most pressing issues facing reproductive justice in the world today. Contributors include Irish author and activist Ann Rossiter, American journalist Eleanor Bader, Irish journalist Caelainn Hogan, pro-choice activist Mary Lou Greenberg, and Publisher and Editor-in-Chief Merle Hoffman.
"Our struggle is a global and generational one," says Hoffman, the award-winning journalist, author and pioneering abortion provider. "In honor of Savita and thousands of others, this is not a time to celebrate, but to come together to make bold strategy and action, and ensure that no woman dies needlessly because her fundamental right to reproductive health care was stripped away from her. We must not – we cannot – go back."
Through this global collection of voices and stories, this special issue recognizes the continued battle for reproductive justice and looks to a more just future where women everywhere can finally celebrate their right to reproductive freedom.
