A Place for Mom Announces Winners Of Annual Senior Care Innovation Scholarship
Program Designed to Foster Emerging Talent in the Field of Gerontology
SEATTLE, June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- A Place for Mom® (APFM), the nation's largest senior living referral service, has announced the winners of its annual college scholarship contest. The Senior Care Innovation Scholarship program was launched in 2013 to help encourage student interest in the senior living field. Five winners were chosen from a pool of 323 applicants to receive a $1,000 scholarship each toward their studies. The 2014 winners are: Nicholas Bott (Stanford University), Alicia Roth (University of Florida), Deepa Shah (The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania), Piper Smith (Missouri State University), and Megan Zepp (Virginia Commonwealth University).
The scholarship was open to any U.S. student enrolled in an associate's or bachelor's degree, or graduate-level program in fields related to gerontology at an accredited two-year college or four-year university. Applicants were asked to provide a letter of introduction stating the reasons they are seeking their degree and why they are a good candidate to receive the scholarship. Additionally, applicants submitted an essay addressing needed innovations in the senior care industry in order to meet the care needs of the aging population in the U.S.
"Much like last year, narrowing down the list of finalists was challenging as we received a substantial amount of remarkable essays," said Dan Willis, Senior Vice President of Partner Services at APFM. "The chosen winners were able to clearly communicate their passion and interest in pursuing a career in the senior care space. Our scholarship is an excellent opportunity to recognize and support talented students who presented innovative ideas to address the many challenges facing the senior living industry."
Additional information on the five 2014 scholarship winners, including bios and essays, can be found on the APFM blog at www.aplaceformom.com/blog.
