A. O. Smith names Greene vice president-government and industry affairs
MILWAUKEE, Feb. 22, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- A. O. Smith Corporation (NYSE:AOS) today announced the appointment of Joshua C. Greene as vice president-government and industry affairs.
In his new role, Greene will primarily be responsible for monitoring and influencing legislation that impacts A. O. Smith and the water heating industry, as well as ensuring the company's positions on legislation and regulations are known to elected officials and Federal regulators. He also will work with the company's corporate development and innovation teams, as well as helping to direct and support the company's Political Action Committee.
Greene replaces Charles W. Adams, who will retire as director-government affairs and principal engineer, effective March 1.
"Thanks to his in-depth technical knowledge, understanding of our industry, and straight-forward ability to communicate complex engineering concepts, Charlie and A. O. Smith are well respected in Washington, D.C., and on the state level," James F. Stern, executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary of A. O. Smith, observed.
Adams' career at A. O. Smith spanned more than 20 years. He joined the company in 1996 as vice president-product engineering for the former Water Products Company. In 2006, he was named director of the Thermal and Mechanical Group at the company's Corporate Technology Center in Milwaukee. He assumed the dual role of government affairs and engineering in 2009.
"Although Josh Greene is new to this position, he is not new to A. O. Smith, having served as our lobbyist and counsel in Washington, D.C., for the past six years," Stern pointed out.
Prior to joining A. O. Smith, Greene worked at Squire Patton Boggs, LLP, of Washington, D.C., where he was a partner and the chair of its Energy and Environment Policy Practice. In his 14 years with the firm, Greene has served a wide range of manufacturing and engineering clients covering issues that included energy efficiency, renewable energy development, early stage technologies, and economic development. Greene joined Patton Boggs as an associate in September 2002 and was named a partner in 2010.
From 2000 until 2001, Greene worked as a law clerk for the State of Maryland Commission on Human Relations. He also served as a senior legislative assistant to Rep. Jerrold Nadler of New York and legislative aide and staff assistant to Rep. Eliot Engel of New York. Greene earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Delaware in Newark, and graduated cum laude from The University of Baltimore School of Law in 2002. He will continue to maintain an office in Washington, D.C.
