A deep look into the current state of the global SDKs market: Usage and market share by SDK category, app or game category, app developer geo, top apps and much more
HERZLIYA, Israel, Oct. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- SafeDK, the leading end-to-end mobile SDK management platform and mobile Ad Intelligence solution is releasing today a new Mobile SDKs Trends report which for the first time includes an analysis of SDKs related privacy issues. The report reveals who the top mobile SDKs are, by SDK category, by app or game category, by developer geo and more.
The data consists of over 190,000 free Android apps, including apps that were featured in Google Play's top charts, crossed with a database of over 1,000 mobile SDKs. The report also includes a comparison to the previous report that was released on May 2017, revealing interesting new trends.
The current report includes a new section that is dedicated to the privacy issues that have captured the media's attention recently. In this report, for the first time, we review the different type of private user data that SDKs access – location, user apps, contacts, emails accounts and many more - with or without the app owner's knowledge.
Here are the main highlights from this report:
- The average number of mobile SDKs in an app now stands on 17.9, representing a slight increase compared to May 2017.
- Blockchain economy is gaining traction in the mobile industry as presented by the increased market share of Skubit, a bitcoin Payment SDK, which has sky rocketed in the past quarter, and is used more than other "traditional" Payment SDK.
- With recent lawsuits against mobile app publishers and the GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) getting closer, privacy issues are a growing concern. Over 50% of apps having at least one SDK trying to access user location and 40% of apps have SDKs that are looking at the list of other apps installed on their users' devices.
- It's not surprising that Google Play Services continues to lead the pack, with Facebook steady in second place, Firebase gaining market share and Crashlytics back in the top five.
