Analyst Update: Results, Acquisitions, Debt Repurchases, and Investments
US markets closed lower breaking a three day rally as a rising dollar and lower oil prices weighed on the industrial, utilities and energy sectors. The greenback rose 0.13% to $99.47, while the investors weighed in the slowdown in the U.S. drilling. Also the U.S. stocks fell overnight on concerns over earnings with analysts projecting growth to decline year-over-year. All three indices were in the red, with DOW closing at 17,977.04 or (0.45%) lower, S&P at 2092.43 or (0.46%) and NASDAQ ended (0.15%) lower to close at 4988.25. Amid a lack of fresh triggers, sentiment may be largely driven by corporate news flow and commodity prices. European markets were mixed on back of some profit taking to end last trading week's gains. Germany's DAX and U.K.'s FTSE 100 slipped 0.3% and 0.4% respectively, and France's CAC rose 0.3%. There was very little economic data to drive the direction of trading, except for some weak trade data from China. The Asian markets were also mixed, however Shanghai Composite index and Hang Seng rallied 87.40 points or 2.17 % to 4,121.71 and 743.95 points or 2.73 % to 28,016.34 respectively, on back of weak export- import data which fanned hopes for more economic stimulus to boost sluggish growth.
