MIAMI, Sept. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- A Little Hope Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports the needs of underprivileged children, announced today the $2,500 Dr. Emma Lerew Scholarship is available to students from low-income families who seek a career in education.
Scholarship candidates will be on a path to provide excellent teaching environments and community engagement to the next generation of youth. In addition to the scholarship, candidates will receive mentoring from successful teachers and administrators. The selection committee, chaired by Emma Lerew, PhD., consists of a minimum of three public service professionals.
"The Dr. Emma Lerew Scholarship is named after my mother, who dedicated most of her career to education, specifically to help English learners and migrant students from kindergarten to adult. She is helping to move forward our desire to help underprivileged youth rise to their potential," said Louis Hernandez Jr., founder of A Little Hope Foundation.
Dr. Lerew, who is retired as the director of programs and services in the Hayward Unified School District in northern California, serves as executive director of the Scholarship Program.
"It means a lot to me that A Little Hope Foundation has created this opportunity to assist young people, especially if they are the first in their families to go to college. It's an honor to be given the opportunity to continue to help low-income students to break out of their circumstances and to provide the educational tools they need to achieve," Dr. Lerew said.
A Little Hope Foundation provides up to $10,000 in scholarships annually. Students have the opportunity to receive one $2,500 scholarship a year. The scholarships are granted based upon assessment of need and university selection. We help underrepresented students with outstanding achievement and the ambition and drive to pursue a higher education in selected fields that will equip them to tackle complex social and economic issues affecting their communities.
A Little Hope Foundation is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting the needs of underrepresented and underprivileged children through education, healthcare, the arts, and youth leadership development.
