A Less Exposing, More Comfortable Alternative to the Traditional Hospital Gown
RIDGEWOOD, N.J., June 21, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Most people dread the exposed-back (and exposed-backside) gown more than anything when they think of staying in the hospital. As part of its longstanding commitment to improving the patient experience, The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ, recently upgraded the standard medical mainstay with a longer, more substantial, more comfortable and less revealing gown. The hospital also has designed alternatives that feel more like pajamas or loungewear, with long johns and tee shirts for children, and tops and pants for adults.

"At Valley, we recognize how important it is to provide our patients with not only exceptional clinical care, but also an outstanding hospital experience," said Ann Marie Leichman, Vice President of Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer. "We know the traditional gowns are a sore spot for patients, so decided to do something about that."
The new adult wear is now being issued, and the new attire for children was introduced earlier this year. "We've gotten a great response to the new designs from parents," said Jeffrey Bienstock, M.D., Director of Pediatrics. "They love the cute designs and the children seem to like being able to wear something comfortable and familiar that reminds them of their own pajamas."
"We are pleased to be able to offer the new child-friendly hospital wear as a wonderful amenity for children and their families," Bienstock added. "Anything that can reduce the stress associated with a hospitalization for children and their families is a wonderful thing."
