Having served four terms in the House of Representatives before being elected to the Senate, Senator Chambliss is currently a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee; the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry; the Senate Rules Committee; the Senate Special Committee on Aging; and presently serves as the vice chairman of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence.
Senator Chambliss stated, "I'm pleased that Mitsubishi Power Systems has chosen the Savannah area for its new home. Private investment by a world-class company such as this one helps spur much-needed job creation and employment growth during tough economic times. As Mitsubishi continues its innovations in the energy industry, I know it will also play a vital role in the community here."
His first-hand look at the new jobs created by Mitsubishi's first industrial gas turbine manufacturing facility outside of Japan underscores the public-private alliance that is bringing jobs and investment to Georgia while reflecting Mitsubishi's corporate commitment to creating an American manufacturing base that further strengthens the company's energy leadership position.
Mitsubishi gas turbines are in operation worldwide providing clean, efficient power to millions of residential and commercial customers. The new Georgia factory will provide Mitsubishi G and J class gas turbines for customers in North and South America and beyond, with the assembly of units commencing in 2012.
During dedication ceremonies at the Savannah Machinery Works earlier this year, Dave Walsh, MPSA Senior Vice told his Georgia audience, "By bringing a premier energy service complex to Savannah, MPSA is positioned to meet the needs of key customers throughout the Americas for years to come. We are positioned to support the energy market with Mitsubishi's advanced new turbine technology, providing not only our latest high efficiency machines, but also additional service capacity to support them through this facility."
