A fatter "skinny" plan: HealthFirst unveils new level of popular MEC health plan

Simple Select, a Minimum Essential Coverage (MEC) plan that meets preventive requirements of the Affordable Care Act, now offers three levels for employers who wish to offer affordable, basic health care coverage while avoiding penalties.

• Plan 1: Basic plan covers preventive care at 100 percent, including all services required by the ACA, such as certain immunizations and screenings.

• NEW Plan 3: All the benefits of Plans 1 and 2, plus limited coverage for such services as emergency room care and out-patient surgery.

Simple Select is a so-called "skinny plan" that satisfies the individual mandate for employees, so they won't face fines. These plans also minimize potential ACA-related penalties for employers.
