Stop & Shop Earns an A+ From Local Schools
Students Benefit from $1 Million Donation
QUINCY, Mass., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Summer vacation is less than two months away, but it's not the only reason students from 380 schools across the northeast have a reason to celebrate. Stop & Shop today announced it will distribute $1 million to local schools on behalf of Stop & Shop and its A+ Bonus Bucks shoppers.
In its first year, more than 148,133 Stop & Shop customers registered their Stop & Shop cards to raise money for local schools through Stop & Shop's A+ Bonus Bucks program. The program allowed customers to designate A+ Bonus Bucks points for every dollar spent to the school or schools of their choice by registering their Stop & Shop cards at stopandshop.com.
Customers accrued points from October 9 through March 25 which added up to valuable cash rewards for local schools. Participating schools had the opportunity to secure additional cash rewards from $100 -$1,000 through principal challenges, writing and art contests. One brave principal, Thomas Moore from Wethersfield High School in Wethersfield, Conn., shopped for groceries at his local Stop & Shop dressed-up as the school mascot and won an extra $1,000 for his school.
This month, Moore will be among 380 principals to receive Stop & Shop's A+ Bonus Bucks cash rewards which can be allocated to a variety of school directed programs including art, music, athletics, and after-school, or used to purchase equipment, teaching supplies and learning tools.
"Stop & Shop has been providing healthy, affordable meals to families and serving local communities philanthropically for more than 90 years," said Faith Weiner, senior director of public affairs for Stop & Shop. "Now more than ever, schools need our support and A+ Bonus Bucks is a new, easy way for customers to support their local schools every time they shop."
