90+ Cellars Introduces First Beaujolais Wines to Growing Portfolio
Top wine brand captures the growing excitement around French wine region with Lots 158 and 159
BOSTON, Sept. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- 90+ Cellars, one of the country's fastest growing wine brands, is excited to announce its first Beaujolais, Lot 158. In recent years, Beaujolais wines have become a go-to for sommeliers because of their fresh and lively profile, food-friendliness, and affordability. This buzz, however, is expanding to a broader audience. Exports to the U.S. grew by seven percent in volume last year according to Business France, and IRi data indicates Beaujolais sales have increased by more than 20 percent in some parts of the country.
For years, the Beaujolais conversation has been dominated by the marketing efforts around Beaujolais Nouveau, the first-release wine of the annual harvest. Beaujolais Nouveau, however, does not represent the region's higher quality wines. As a company rooted in helping people explore the world of great wine, 90+ Cellars believes now is the perfect time to bring Beaujolais to its portfolio and to help people discover just how extraordinary these wines can be.
Lot 158, which retails for around $10, is a great example of the outstanding quality and value of wines from the Beaujolais region. The wine is crafted from hand harvested Gamay grapes grown near the villages La Chapelle-de-Guinchay and Romanèche-Thorins. Lot 158 Beaujolais boasts a smooth texture and flavors of fresh strawberries and blueberries, with hints of wildflowers that come to life on both the palate and the beautifully illustrated label.
"Beaujolais is one of the most interesting wines on the market right now, and is a natural fit for our portfolio thanks to its high quality and reasonable price," said Brett Vankoski, wine director and co-founder of Latitude Beverage, the company behind 90+ Cellars. "Our goal with Lot 158 is to give wine drinkers a new reason to be excited about Beaujolais. Often categorized as a Thanksgiving wine, Beaujolais is ready to have its day. A food-friendly wine to be shared with friends and family this fall, try pairing Beaujolais with everything from a hearty beef stew to butternut squash linguine with crispy sage."
And because there is more Beaujolais to be discovered, 90+ Cellars has also launched a limited-release Cru Beaujolais, Lot 159 Chénas. Chénas hails from its namesake cru, which lies in the northern Beaujolais region. Chénas has the fewest exports to the U.S. of any of the ten crus, making Lot 159 a must-buy.
Lot 158 Beaujolais and Lot 159 Chénas Cru Beaujolais are now available where 90+ Cellars wines are sold. About Latitude Beverage Company
Latitude Beverage Company is the innovative, Boston-based company behind a portfolio of national wine brands, including 90+ Cellars, Lila Wines, Mija Sangria, Iron Side Cellars, Places Wines and Magic Door. The company was founded in 2007 by Kevin Mehra who saw an opportunity to make high-end wine more accessible by purchasing oversupply from top wineries across the globe, bottling the wine under his own labels, and selling it to consumers often at a fraction of the original source price. This unique business model, based on the centuries old function of the négociant, became the foundation for 90+ Cellars. This same model has enabled Latitude Beverage Company to expand its portfolio with additional labels, and the company is now recognized as one of the fastest growing wine companies in America.
