The latest article from Amerisleep's Sleep 101 blog, titled "9 Reasons We Hate Black Friday Shopping", examines the drawbacks of retail shopping on the busy holiday, highlighting why online can be better. According to recent surveys in Time magazine, it looks like many Americans agree - as much 85% of people planning to steer clear of stores on Black Friday.
The article lists the top nine reasons to stay home in countdown fashion, beginning with impulse buying which is encouraged by limited time offers with little opportunity to research and comparison shop major purchases. Limited-quantity doorbusters and deals that really are not deals are next on the list.
A few of the reasons to skip stores focus on the busy aspect, with long lines that start hours in advance for the aforementioned doorbusters. And, even if only 15% of Americans turn out for Black Friday, that still means over 40 million people packing into department stores and and shopping malls. Tired, grumpy crowds and scrambles for limited-time deals can make crowds competitive, and sometimes downright nasty with several crazy incidents occurring in the past few years.
Other reasons to hate Black Friday in stores listed by Amerisleep include how much time they suck from the holiday weekend, wasting precious days off work for shoppers, preventing retail workers from enjoying their holidays, and reducing time for friends and family.
The number one reason to skip the lines this Thanksgiving weekend is identified as the fact that many of the exact same or even better deals will be available online. In addition to saving money and skipping crowds, Amerisleep adds the benefits of not having to leave home, not dealing with pushy salespeople, and having the opportunity to research major purchases like mattresses in order to make smarter buying decisions.
Amerisleep highlights that their Black Friday mattress deals on memory foam and adjustable beds will all be available online, starting 12 AM on 11/29. The deals are viewable on their website, and exclusive offers will also be emailed to newsletter subscribers throughout the holiday weekend.
