8th Annual PA Gaming Control Board Report on Casino Industry Diversity Provides Employment and Expenditure Information
HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 22, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board today released its 8th Annual Diversity Report providing a description of each casino's activities related to the implementation of their diversity plans and the action taken by the entities to achieve the Commonwealth's goal of enhanced representation of diverse groups in the gaming industry.
Highlights from the Report are described in the bullet-points below:
- Pennsylvania's ten casinos and two resort casinos collectively employed 17,482 persons at the close of the state fiscal year of 2014-2015;
- 89.1% of casino employees are residents of Pennsylvania;
- 43% of these employees are female while 33% are racial minorities; and
- Casinos spent $511.7 million in 2014-2015 with other businesses for construction and non-construction expenses.

Mozelle Daniels, the Board's Director of Diversity, stated that "The report not only outlines the work by Pennsylvania casinos to create diverse, employee friendly cultures, but is also an important document that allows the public to see how each individual casino is performing in the areas of diversity, community outreach, and outside expenditures."
Furthermore, according to Ms. Daniels, "The leadership in Pennsylvania's casinos are across the board, committed to meeting the mandates of the Gaming Act, thereby fostering participation and diversity in all aspects of their operations in the Commonwealth." Additionally, Ms. Daniels stated that, "The casinos have proven to be significant partners within their respective business communities."
The 2014-2015 Diversity Report also provides casino-by-casino information for items such as employment trends over a four year period by race and gender and a detailed breakdown of minority, women, and local business expenditures.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board was established in 2004 and is tasked to oversee all aspects of the state's casino industry. There are 10 stand-alone and racetrack casinos in operation, along with the two resort casinos. These facilities collectively employ over 17,000 people and generate an average of $3.7 million per day in tax revenue from slot machine and table games play. The largest portion of that money is used for property tax reduction to all Pennsylvania homeowners with additional tax revenue going to the horse racing industry, economic development projects, fire companies, county fairs, water and sewer projects, the Commonwealth's General Fund, and to local governments that host casinos.
