84 Lumber Advances 35 Spots on America's Largest Private Companies List
Forbes ranks company #125 for 2018
EIGHTY FOUR, Pa., Oct. 25, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- 84 Lumber has once again been recognized on Forbes' annual list of America's Largest Private Companies. The leading building materials supplier ranks #125 among 229 businesses, up 35 spots from 2017. Under the "Retailing" category, the company ranks #14 among 22 companies. 84 Lumber has been featured on the renowned list nearly every year since it launched in 1985, and was also recognized by Forbes as one of America's Best Midsize Employers in 2016 and 2017.
Forbes chooses the country's largest private companies based on annual revenue, which must have exceeded $2 billion through the end of the most recent fiscal year. 84 Lumber surpassed $3.3 billion in sales in 2017 and has seen a steady upward trend in recent years. The company's revenues were $2.3 billion, $2.5 billion and $2.8 billion in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively. With more than 250 locations and 5,500 associates nationwide, 84 Lumber is on pace to return to pre-recession status, when the company reached nearly $4 billion in annual revenue.
"We're beyond excited to once again be recognized by Forbes as one of the country's largest private companies," said Maggie Hardy Magerko, owner and president of 84 Lumber. "But it's even more thrilling to see how far we've come since those tough days during the recession. Our associates have dug deep over the last decade to get us back to where we were in the early 2000s. This honor is a true testament of their continued hard work and dedication."
Rounding out the top five on this year's list are perennial leaders Cargill, Koch Industries, Albertsons, Deloitte and PricewaterhouseCoopers. View the complete list here, and 84 Lumber's profile here.
