$8 Million Settlement for Texas Woman Burned in Tabletop Lamp Explosion
Burn injury lawyers at The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson help client obtain multimillion-dollar recovery
DALLAS, Aug. 1, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Attorneys for a Fort Worth woman who suffered severe burns when a decorative tabletop fire pit exploded during a dinner party have negotiated an $8 million settlement.
Attorneys from The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson represented Sasha and Jeff Denman in a products liability lawsuit filed in Portland, Oregon, stemming from the May 2009 explosion. The accident occurred as the Denmans and their guests ate dinner around a patio table in the Denmans' backyard while a fire pit device burned in the middle of the table. According to the lawsuit, Jeff Denman was attempting to refuel the lamp by pouring fuel gel into the fuel reservoir when the substance burst into flames upon contact with the device. The burning gel then travelled down the length of the table, catching Ms. Denman on fire.
Ms. Denman suffered severe burns to her neck, chest, face, and arms, and she sustained permanent and disfiguring burn injuries, necessitating multiple skin-graft surgeries and a prolonged and ongoing course of therapy and treatment.
"This was a terrible tragedy that caused life-changing injuries that will affect our clients for the rest of their lives," says attorney Frank L. Branson of Dallas' The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson. "This settlement will help Sasha and her family move forward in what has already been and will continue to be a painful recovery."
The Denman's lawsuit charged that the device is defective and unreasonably dangerous. As a result of the lawsuit filed by The Law Offices of Frank L. Branson, with assistance of Oregon lawyer Steve English of Perkins Coie LLP, multiple defendants named in the lawsuit agreed to pay an $8 million settlement in an agreement reached in June 2012.
