600 Mercedes-Benz Financial Services Volunteers to Support 15 Dallas-Fort Worth Nonprofits During Fourth-Annual Week of Caring

FORT WORTH, Texas, Sept. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 600 volunteers will mobilize across the Dallas-Fort Worth area to support 15 nonprofit organizations during Mercedes-Benz Financial Services' fourth-annual Week of Caring. Week of Caring is a week-long community service campaign that Mercedes-Benz Financial Services, a leading automotive financial services provider in the U.S., has organized as part of its corporate commitment to making a difference in the communities where its team members live and work.

"Week of Caring is an all-hands-on-deck affair for Mercedes-Benz Financial Services and an opportunity for team members to give their time helping to better our local communities," said Peter Zieringer, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. "The organizations with which we are partnering this year are truly making a life-changing impact on the communities they serve, and seeing everything that our volunteers accomplish is always the highlight of the week."

Volunteers from the company's headquarters, located in Farmington Hills, Michigan, are also supporting a week of community projects during the Week of Caring, and the company's locations in Atlanta, Georgia; Fort Mill, South Carolina; and Mississauga, Canada, will be taking part in one-day projects as well. In total, more than 1,200 volunteers will dedicate more than 8,000 hours of volunteer service, benefitting 26 different nonprofit organizations. Since its inception in 2013, more than 75 volunteer projects, spanning nearly 35,000 hours of service, will have been completed during Week of Caring.

Project examples in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex include: working with underserved students and families; planting and harvesting gardens; preparing food for those in need; neighborhood cleanup and beautification; and helping build a home for deserving families. Participants will volunteer at a community project of their choice with one of the following nonprofit organizations:

1.    Black Tie Dinner (Dallas, Texas) https://blacktie.org/default.aspx
The event will raise money for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) supportive organizations serving North Texas. Volunteers will assist with setup and logistics for the annual gala.

2.    Community Food Bank (Fort Worth, Texas) www.food-bank.org
Volunteers will help organize, sort and distribute food that will be used to feed those in need within the community.

3.    Community Storehouse (Keller, Texas) www.communitystorehouse.org
Community Storehouse's 40,000-square-foot warehouse will be used to sort clothing and food for people in need in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.

4.    Don't Forget To Feed Me (Fort Worth, Texas) www.dontforgettofeedme.org
Pet food will be bagged, labeled and sorted before being donated to families who might not be able to keep their pet otherwise.

5.    Fort Worth Independent School District (Fort Worth, Texas) www.fwisd.org
Volunteers will work with the students and faculty of Sagamore Hills Elementary, including painting and decorating new bookshelves that students will take home, already stocked with two new books donated by Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. Educational murals will also be painted in school hallways.

6.    Friends of the Katy Trail (Dallas, Texas) http://katytraildallas.org/
Volunteers will spend the day beautifying a path on the Katy Trail.

7.    Junior Achievement (Fort Worth, Texas) www.jafortworth.org
Volunteers will present four educational sessions to ninth-grade students at Eaton High School.

8.    Kids Against Hunger Tarrant County (Arlington, Texas) www.kahtarrant.org
This activity will take place in-office, as ingredients will be packaged for 30,000 fortified soy/rice casserole-style meals that are specifically formulated to meet the nutritional needs of a hungry child.

9.    Meals on Wheels of Tarrant County (Fort Worth, Texas) http://mealsonwheels.org/
Meals will be delivered to homebound people in the local community.

10.  REAL School Gardens (Fort Worth, Texas) www.realschoolgardens.org
An educational garden will be built from start to finish that students will utilize throughout their school year to practice collaboration and apply real-world math and critical thinking skills.

11.  SafeHaven of Tarrant County (Hurst, Texas) www.safehaventc.org
SafeHaven's transitional housing mini complex will undergo renovations indoors and outdoors, including the creation of a new community garden and updated playground equipment. 

12.  Senior Jamboree – Senior Citizen Services of Tarrant County (Fort Worth, Texas) www.scstc.org
Volunteers will assist more than 800 senior citizens from Tarrant County during the Senior Jamboree with games, fellowship and a picnic lunch/cook out.

13.  SPARK! Dallas (Dallas, Texas) www.sparkdallas.org
The SPARK! space will be painted and physically transformed for groups of children throughout the community.

14.  Tarrant Area Food Bank (Fort Worth, Texas) www.tarrantareafoodbank.com
Food will be inspected, sorted and boxed for community distribution.

15.  Trinity Habitat for Humanity (Fort Worth, Texas) www.trinityhabitat.org
Volunteers will team up with other organizations to build two different homes at the same time.
