58th Annual Laureate Awards, Presented by Penton's Aviation Week, Honor Outstanding Achievements in Aviation, Aerospace & Defense
WASHINGTON, March 5, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Winners of the 58th Annual Laureate Awards, honoring extraordinary achievements in the global aerospace arena, were announced tonight at a black-tie gala at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. The winners include:
- Civil Aviation: Airbus A350 program head Didier Evrard, for rigorous execution of the certification program for the new widebody airliner
- Defense: U.S. Ground-Based Midcourse Defense team, for overcoming a complex problem preventing ballistic missile intercepts with the Ground-based Midcourse Defense system
- Space: European Space Agency, for the Rosetta mission to rendezvous with, enter orbit around and land on a comet for the first time
- Business Aviation: Kenn Ricci, Nextant Aerospace, for bringing new technology to business aviation at less cost by remanufacturing business aircraft
- Technology: GE Aviation head of additive-manufacturing strategy Greg Morris, for transition of the new technology into production engines
- Innovation: Raytheon and Saab, for their different approaches to bringing gallium nitride power electronics to military radar and electronic-warfare systems
Four military academy cadets were selected to receive Tomorrow's Leaders awards, honoring young men and women who have chosen career paths in the armed forces. This year's honorees include:
- Rebecca A. Esselstein, Cadet First Class, United States Air Force Academy
- Jacquelyn Kubicko, Second Class Cadet, United States Coast Guard Academy
- Samuel Lacinski, Midshipman First Class, United States Naval Academy
- Andrew Nicholas Ford, Cadet Lieutenant, United States Military Academy
In addition, Aviation Week editors recognized two recipients of the Philip J. Klass Award for Lifetime Achievement: John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer - Customers, Airbus and David Thompson, Chairman & CEO, Orbital Sciences.
