55 Illinois Communities Choose Homefield Energy to Supply Electricity
COLLINSVILLE, Ill., Dec. 12, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The consultant group, Good Energy, representing 55 central and southern Illinois communities, announced Tuesday, Dec. 11 that Homefield Energy has been selected to serve as the new residential electric supplier in those communities. Homefield Energy is the residential electric supply option from Ameren Energy Marketing (AEM), a retail electric supplier. The switch to Homefield Energy electric supply will begin in January.
"We are pleased that the residents of these communities have selected Homefield Energy as their electric supply choice," said Steven R. Sullivan, president and CEO of AEM. "The transition should be seamless; the only difference customers will notice is a lower supply cost on their utility bill. Choosing Homefield Energy supports an Illinois business and local workers – keeping the dollars they spend right here in our Illinois communities."
In May 2012, Homefield Energy was selected as the winning supplier to 50 Illinois communities which passed the referendum to participate in municipal aggregation, representing more than 200,000 customers. With today's announcement, Homefield Energy will now supply electricity to a total of nearly 500,000 homes and small businesses of hard-working Illinois families and their communities.
"Homefield Energy was the best choice for the City of Wood River," said Mayor Fred Ufert. "It was more than just the price. We were able to select the term of the agreement and the type of energy to be supplied; all from a supplier that knows Illinois, and knows our community – that was an important component for us as well."
The new supply rate will provide an estimated 24 percent savings on the supply rate for an average residential customer that uses approximately 800 kilowatt hours per month. The savings will be reflected on the energy supply portion of customers' electric utility bills. Each customer's actual savings will vary based on specific usage patterns. According to the guidelines of municipal aggregation, eligible customers are automatically enrolled in the program unless the customer affirmatively elects not to participate or "opts-out" of the program. Homefield Energy will notify customers of their right to opt-out with a mailed notice prior to the start of the service period.
"Offering customers measurable savings and providing them with a seamless transition to Homefield Energy is our number one focus," said Mark Fanning, manager of Marketing and Customer Care for Homefield Energy. "We have a dedicated team of experienced professionals located in Illinois ready to assist our customers with any questions or concerns they may have. We're excited to demonstrate why the Homefield Energy advantage is the best choice for Illinois energy customers."
