Upon winning the award, Cantrell said, "I would like to thank the Carolina Panthers and FSI for the wonderful experience. Meeting all these awesome teachers has been great and it has truly been an honor to be selected from over a thousand nominees. I would also love to invite the community to Ewing's Winter Concert on Dec. 18 at 6 p.m. in the GHS Auditorium, followed by the Gaffney Band of Gold and Chorus concert at 7p.m."
This program began in 2010 as part of the partnership between FSI and the Carolina Panthers. The goal of the program is to recognize outstanding educators in the region for the work that they do.
Nominations were submitted from September 9th to November 30th through the company's website. From the nominations, a winner was chosen each week and this individual received a gift box of supplies for the classroom and a case of paper as well as two tickets to the Panthers game on December 9th.
All 12 Teacher of the Week winners were present at the Panthers home game against the Falcons. Prior to the game, the winner was announced during an on-field presentation. Afterwards, the teachers and their guests enjoyed a big Panthers win!
The program has grown significantly in its three-year existence and FSI hopes to continue it next year.
"It's incredible the kind of response we've had and how it continues to grow every year! This year we sent out over 600 nomination boxes and reading through the nominations and learning about the impact these individuals are making on the future generation is truly inspiring," said Emily Leazer, FSI representative for the program.
