DALLAS, Dec. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Magdalen House's "Underneath the Tree" End of Year Giving Campaign aims to raise $50,000 by Dec. 31, enough to pay for 50 alcoholic women to complete its Social Detox Program. Based in East Dallas, "Maggie's," as it's known, provides no-cost recovery services for alcoholic women and their families in North Texas.
"The holidays are a particularly difficult time for alcoholic women and their families," says Ainsley David, Director of Programs at The Magdalen House. "Our home is a safe haven where women can find sobriety, community and sisterhood during the season."
- 1,000s Of Women Served: For 31 years, Maggie's has helped thousands of women recover from alcoholism in a safe and spiritual environment based on a simple philosophy: by helping others you help yourself.
- $1,000 for A Chance At A New Life: Despite a low overhead — $1,000 pays for one woman's bed for two weeks — Maggie's can start a woman's journey to permanent recovery.
- 300 Women Helped This Year: In 2018, Maggie's has admitted 306 women into their Social Detox Program to date, giving them a new chance at life.
- Improving the Community at Large: When one alcoholic woman gains freedom from alcoholism, it changes the lives of her family and the community.
- A Lifelong Program: The program's effectiveness lies in its comprehensive, lifelong approach to recovery. Nearly half the women who complete the Social Detox Program come back as volunteers within their first six weeks of sobriety. These alcoholic women have access to Maggie's 1,300+ support meetings each year, and their loved ones may participate in specific support groups geared toward them.
"More than 108,000 women are alcohol-dependent in the Dallas County area," says Lisa Kroencke, Executive Director of The Magdalen House. "Our no-cost services, provided in a safe and supportive environment, with accurate information about the problem and the solution, help women recover from alcoholism."
