NEW ORLEANS, May 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Thorsten Leighty has been named Executive Chef of New Orleans Marriott and 5 Fifty 5, the hotel's on-site dining establishment and one of the tastiest restaurants in New Orleans French Quarter.

As a native of Wiesbaden, Germany, Leighty received classical training in international cuisine. Most recently, he served as Executive Chef at Eden Roc Renaissance Resort & Spa in Miami Beach, where he successfully managed seven dining outlets that generated $23 million in revenue and catered to top-notch events. Under Leighty's tutelage, Eden Roc instituted a kosher kitchen, segregated from the general catering kitchen.

Leighty spent the first 10 years of his career gaining a breadth of experience in various roles at Michelin-starred restaurants abroad. After cultivating his career in Europe, he headed to the U.S. at age 25 to work as a sous chef under German Master Chef Joachim Splichal at the highly acclaimed Patina in Los Angeles. Following his work at Patina, Leighty served as Executive Sous Chef at Renaissance Hollywood Hotel, where he catered at the Academy Awards and private parties for stars, including Tom Hanks and Bill Clinton.

Following his time in LA, Leighty relocated to Tuscon, AZ, where he served as Executive Sous Chef at JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa. Leighty then earned the position as Executive Chef of JW Marriott Ihilani Resort & Spa in Kapolei, HI.
