WASHINGTON, July 18, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- 463 Communications, a leading strategic communications firm focused on leveraging thought leadership and issue-based campaigns to drive policy and corporate programs, today announced the appointment of veteran DC policy leader Shane Tews as a Principal of the firm, based in Washington, DC, and corporate communications expert Terry Anderson as a Strategic Advisor, based in San Francisco, CA.
Both Tews and Anderson bring more than 20 years of experience each in corporate and public affairs, strategic communications, policy branding and reputation and crisis management.
"Shane and Terry bring a broad array of experience and knowledge on how to drive and shape the narrative, whether in Washington, Silicon Valley or beyond," said Tom Galvin, Co-founder and Principal at 463. "Their expertise is in shaping debates and understanding the power that strategic campaigns play in helping clients cut through the noise and communicate effectively."
Shane Tews
Tews' experience in government during the first Bush Administration and on the Hill as well as working for trade groups and corporations has given her a broad understanding of what it takes to succeed in challenging policy environments. Tews has spent the last decade bridging the worlds of Washington and Silicon Valley by explaining to lawmakers and other policymakers how their decisions affect innovation and businesses while also helping technology leaders to understand the importance of engaging and shaping our nation's policies.
Prior to joining 463, Tews was Vice President of Government Relations for VeriSign, where she was responsible for driving strategy with policy makers regarding homeland security, Internet safety, Internet Governance, and telecommunications policy as well as helping shape the company's corporate brand. Tews started her career in Washington working in the first Bush administration for the Secretary of Transportation before moving to the Office of Cabinet Affairs at the White House. Later she served as Legislative Director for Congressman Gary Franks (R-CT) working on health care, telecommunications, energy, tax and budget policy. She also did stints working for Citizens for a Sound Economy and the Distilled Spirits Council.
Terry Anderson
Anderson will be a 463 Strategic Advisor while continuing to manage her other professional interests. She previously served as Vice President of Global Corporate Communications at tech leaders VMware and Cisco, responsible in both roles for leading company-wide internal and external communications. At Cisco, Anderson spent a decade driving communications strategy for the Fortune 500 company and serving as a high-level advisor to Chairman and CEO John Chambers and other company executives. Under her leadership, Cisco's Public Relations group was centralized in 2006. In 2007 Anderson spearheaded the creation of Cisco's community relations function, driving deep local engagement models across the company's major global worksites while re-energizing its employee giving programs.
Terry has led teams through virtually every issue a company can face: lawsuits, leadership transitions, financial reporting, product rollouts and crises of every kind. Her team's accomplishments have been recognized with multiple industry and community awards, including Anderson being named Corporate PR Professional of the Year in 2007 by PR News. Anderson has also served as a Board Member on the San Jose Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Churchill Club Industry Advisory Board and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Silicon Valley.
