DENVER, Aug. 16, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Four-Star General Barry R. McCaffrey (Ret), former White House National Drug Policy Director ("Drug Czar"), former SouthCom (Latin America) Commander and an Iraq Desert Storm Commander who led the "Left Hook," will keynote the International Association of Firefighters Health and Safety Symposium in Denver at the Hyatt Regency, Thursday, August 22 at 10:15-11:05 AM, Centennial Ballroom. General McCaffrey will also conduct an audience question-and-answer session 2:30-3:30 in the same location. 1200 Firefighter national and world leaders are expected.
General McCaffrey will address "What is Leadership?" He is also expected to commend the firefighters as America's heroes at 9-11 and beyond, including an area closely watched by former Drug Czar McCaffrey, their fighting thousands of extremely dangerous methamphetamine lab explosion fires, which are extraordinarily hot and have severe environmental consequences. He will discuss firefighters' leadership and courage in the dangers they confront daily. He will also discuss the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse to combat high work related stress and the national drug treatment gap for all Americans--over 23 million who need but do not receive drug and alcohol treatment according to HHS.
Both sessions are open to media, and there will be a press availability before and after each for media who wish to speak with General McCaffrey or ask him questions.
General McCaffrey expressed extreme gratitude to Harold Schaitberger, General President of the International Association of Firefighters, who invited him and will introduce him, as well as to the many other IAFF leaders and staff who helped with his arrangements. Gen. McCaffrey's session is hosted by CRC Health Group, the country's largest substance abuse and behavioral treatment provider.
