4 Star Camps Announces New Summer Academic Program

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., April 12, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- 4 Star Camps (http://www.4starcamps.com) has expanded its summer academic camp and sports camps for the summer to include Career Pursuit courses. It also continues to offer a full line-up of academic enrichment, ESL, SAT prep and college prep options.  

The Career Pursuit program is based on the television show The Apprentice with classes comprised of a series of individual and team tasks and projects based on real-world experiences. These programs for students entering 7th - 12th grades are interactive, mastery-style programs facilitated by an instructor.  

These pursuits will focus on traits that colleges and employers most desire: problem-solving, leadership, cooperation and collaboration, verbal and written communication, presentation skills, critical thinking, and creativity. "We want our students to develop 21st century skills for 21st century careers," says Lisa Popple, CEO. "As a teacher myself, it's more important than ever that we evolve our curriculum to match the world in which we live. It's no longer good enough to expect that what might have worked 10, 20 years ago works today."  

The programs available include Business - Product Development and Marketing, Environmental Studies - Alternative Energy and Sustainable Earth, Political Science - Domestic and International Policy, Film Production, Fashion Design, and Robotics.

The program is designed to be more in-depth and will last a full three hours each day as well as a couple of evenings when the team can get back together. Each student will collaborate on assigned tasks and projects to present a finished product or findings. To ensure that it's not all work and no play, the students select an afternoon activity such as tennis camp, golf camp, soccer, basketball, personal fitness or a fine arts workshop.
