4-County Electric Power Association Chooses PRISM SCADA from ACS
The Mississippi electric cooperative will deploy first-ever SCADA system for improved distribution operations
ATLANTA, Sept. 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Advanced Control Systems (ACS), a global provider of smart grid solutions, has reached an agreement with 4-County Electric Power Association to install its PRISM SCADA system to better serve the cooperative's 46,000 members in eastern Mississippi.
"We selected ACS based upon their longevity, stability and their successful history of serving electrical cooperatives with innovative smart grid solutions," said 4-County EPA system engineer Jacob Fulper. "The PRISM system will provide us with key operational tools that we need now, and provide a ready platform for expansion with additional distribution applications."
The system, expected to be delivered in early-November, will be deployed in a virtualized environment, centralizing all SCADA system hardware onto one server using the VMware application. The system will include a redundant architecture to ensure high availability and will include key SCADA functionality such as switching, tagging, knowledge-based alarming, data trending, historical archiving and DNP over TCP/IP communications. A MultiSpeak compliant interface to the utility's outage management system will also be provided.
The PRISM SCADA system will also include ACS' Heads Up and ePRISM applications for enhanced event notification and system visualization. Heads Up automatically generates email and text message notifications for key utility personnel to alert them to key system events or emergencies, even when away from the control center. The ePRISM application allows management and operations personnel to selectively and securely view SCADA system screens and perform operations remotely when necessary.
"We are proud to have been chosen by 4-County EPA to provide them with their first SCADA system," ACS CEO Jose Barbosa said. "We look forward to a long-term partnership with 4-County and to helping them build a true smart grid foundation to serve their expanding membership."
