3G subscriptions accounted for 34 percent of total mobile subscriptions in Chile at year-end 2011. "Operators and mobile device vendors are aggressively pushing 3G devices to end users. As a result, we expect that by year-end 2016, 99 percent of mobile subscriptions will be using a device with 3G or greater capabilities," notes Jose Mario Lopez, Pyramid Research Analyst at Large. Chile may be first in Latin America to deploy LTE (according to Subtel, tenders for 4G will take place at the end of 2011 or the beginning of 2012)."By 2016, we expect 12 percent of devices in use to be 4G (LTE)," he says.
