CHICAGO, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- ICAP Ocean Tomo, the intellectual property brokerage division of ICAP plc (IAP.L) and the world's premier patent auction firm, will auction two lots owned by VideoMining Corporation at the upcoming Fall 2010 Live Auction in Napa, California on November 11th. The first lot relates to three-dimensional (3D) face imaging using a demographic method and system, while the second lot provides for an event detection system via background feature occlusion. Both lots are at the forefront of 3D imaging and surveillance, and include patents and open applications.

The first lot discloses techniques for developing 3D models of human faces. Conventional 3D modeling techniques rely on two-dimensional (2D) images of a face to render the 3D model. Reliance on 2D images can result in inaccurate depictions, and resulting images do not capture anthropometric features such as relative length of a nose bridge or depth of eyes. The patented technologies provide for an adaptive machine that captures images of human faces and then classifies them on the basis of their demographic features. The captured images are then projected repeatedly on a selected 3D template to construct an accurate model of the face. This lot should be of interest to entities involved in designing and manufacturing security and surveillance systems, access control and identification systems, video conferencing, as well as animation and gaming applications.
The second VideoMining Corporation lot discloses image processing techniques to detect the occurrence of an event in a scene by analyzing the occlusion of predefined static reference points in the background. The technology is an improvement over conventional techniques as it enables real-time event detection in varying conditions without the need of pixel information from previous images. This lot should be of interest to entities involved in designing and manufacturing surveillance, traffic, aircraft, and marine navigation systems as well as video cameras.
"The technologies in both of these lots represent industries that are expected to undergo tremendous growth over the next few years," said ICAP Ocean Tomo's CEO Dean Becker. "Buyers should consider both of the VideoMining Corporation lots as valuable additions to their existing portfolios."
