Bring Your Daughter to Hack Day is focused on exposing youth in the New Orleans area to technology, such as creating websites, animated short stories and games. The one-day workshop is planned around adult-child pairs working together on their project. No prior experience is required of participants, as guidance from on-site coaches will help them build their creation. At the end of the day, participants will present their creations to a judging panel, and a winner will be selected for each project category.
"This is our second year to produce this event," stated Torrie Adams, President of New Orleans Women in Technology. "This event is special to us as it connects the youth of our city with technology, their mentors, parents and siblings. This event was launched last year thanks to the sponsorship of 365 Connect; they continue to be a strong supporter of our organization, the technology community and the future of our city. Due to the overwhelming response we had last year, we wanted to be able to accommodate more participants this year. We are excited to have GE Capital Technology Center participate with 365 Connect to sponsor this year's event. Registrations have been pouring in, which demonstrates that we have created a program of importance to our community."
365 Connect Founder and CEO Kerry W. Kirby stated, "365 Connect is thrilled to participate and sponsor this event that introduces our future innovators to the fundamentals of technology. Nothing is more important than fostering and inspiring our youth to engage in educational programs, and the fact that we can bring families together for the day is an added benefit. New Orleans Women in Technology is doing great things in our city that will help our young people build a variety of skills to create a foundation for a successful career. We are especially pleased to have GE Capital join us this year, they are a vital part of the technology community that is pushing our city into the national spotlight."
The workshop is open to adults and children of any gender or technology experience, and is a great opportunity to spend the day building something with your daughter, son, niece, nephew or family member.
