SEATTLE, Feb. 9, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- 360networks, a facilities-based wholesale provider of Private Line Transport, Ethernet, IP, VoIP and Local Access services, today announced availability of its new Virtual Internet Exchange (VIX) service. "With the continuous increase in Internet Access around the world, service providers need better network performance at a lower cost to remain competitive," said Rick Coma, senior vice president for 360networks. "VIX is changing the way carriers purchase IP transit service by enabling more direct connectivity, or peering, between networks. This is a major step forward in the evolution of Internet connectivity."
VIX is for any provider requiring Internet Access such as wireless carriers, ISPs, data centers, and cloud computing and VoIP service providers. VIX reduces the need for IP transit by providing direct interconnectivity to major Internet Exchanges and other carriers, providing access to content that would otherwise come via high costly Internet Transit links.
"We have reduced the complexity and cost from the typical peering model where most internet and content providers are required to purchase space, power and transport to establish themselves in the Internet Exchanges. VIX economically establishes a peering presence in one or multiple Internet Exchanges with a single Layer 2 Interface," said Brady Adams, chief technology officer for 360networks. "We are excited about the value this brings to our customers."
