360networks Launches Layer 2 Ethernet (L2E) Service
New service provides customers with a cost effective, scalable alternative to traditional private line service
SEATTLE, Jan. 25, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- 360networks, a facilities-based wholesale provider of Private Line Transport, Ethernet, IP, VoIP and Local Access services, today announced availability of its Layer 2 Ethernet (L2E) service.
L2E is a Carrier Ethernet service providing scalable Layer 2 connectivity between major carrier hotels, data centers, Internet Exchanges, and Ethernet Exchanges throughout the region. This service enables customers to decrease network complexity and improve and optimize capacity while reducing costs.
"IP traffic is expected to quadruple in four years," said Rick Coma, 360networks' senior vice president. "We designed the L2E service to support this growth by enabling customers to quickly and cost effectively scale bandwidth and access major data distribution points and other carrier neutral meet me points. L2E eliminates the complexity of building and managing a private network by providing a fully managed diverse protected transport solution."
360networks developed L2E for Internet Service providers (ISPs), cloud infrastructure and storage providers, co-location providers, content providers, content distribution networks, VoIP service providers, wireless carriers, CLECs, cable MSOs, and others needing access to a high performance, purpose-built Layer 2 network. Owned and operated by 360networks, this Layer 2 network provides a level of reliability and control not available from shared network configurations, and is fully mesh-protected for ubiquitous connectivity across 360networks' entire 18,000 route mile footprint. L2E eliminates the mileage associated with traditional private line services. As a port-based service, customers pay a monthly recurring charge per port and can connect multiple locations in a point-to-point or point-to-multipoint configuration.
"We are addressing the industry's continued demand for IP services and simplified connectivity by implementing this network. Reliability and scalability are at the foundation of our network – purpose built, carrier-grade and capable of supporting the ever-expanding suite of advanced IP services," said Brady Adams, 360networks' chief technology officer. "As L2E demonstrates, we have designed and built a more efficient next generation network that provides customers with wholesale solutions to improve performance and reduce costs."
