360fly Announces Exclusive U.S. Retail Partnership with Best Buy
Innovative 360-degree Video Camera Eyes September Launch - Represents Advent of Widespread Accessibility for Virtual Reality Content
PITTSBURGH, July 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- 360fly, Inc., the world's only single-lens camera capturing stitchless 360-degree video with interactive and virtual reality viewing capabilities, today announced an exclusive in-store and online retail partnership with electronics retailer Best Buy. Prior to 360fly's in-store availability in mid-September, Best Buy will begin taking preorders at BestBuy.com. 360fly will retail for $399 and be available in approximately 900 store locations throughout the country.
With a single lens, 360fly is capable of capturing 240 by 360-degrees of seamless, HD-quality video. The interactive video allows viewers to immerse themselves within the video by clicking and dragging or swiping on any mobile device. What may be even more game-changing than the video format itself, is the fact that 360fly is the only video camera that offers a completely mobile experience. There is no need for a computer to upload footage for editing and sharing. Thanks to 360fly's proprietary Android and iOS mobile app, users are able to shoot, edit and share content in minutes through their favorite mobile devices. The lightweight camera is smaller than a baseball and is water and shock resistant.
"We're excited to be launching an exclusive partnership with the country's largest consumer electronics retail chain," said Michael Lanzon, 360fly President – Global Sales. "Having mass retail visibility at launch is extremely important to us, as we believe our camera goes beyond the extreme sports market and can be used in everyday lifestyle applications."
Additionally, in what could represent a landmark development in the widespread acceptance, consumption and evolution of virtual reality content, 360fly's mobile app will allow content to be viewed in "VR Mode," when the mobile device is attached to virtual reality goggles, such as the economically priced Google Cardboard. To date, consumption of virtual reality has been a very costly proposition, requiring the use of much higher priced equipment and limited to a small array of virtual reality content. In combination with Cardboard virtual reality goggles, 360fly opens the door for consumers to produce, consume and share virtual reality experiences at a moment's notice.
"360fly is nothing less than a game-changer for how consumers capture and share video content as well as democratizing virtual reality," said Peter Adderton, 360fly CEO. "This partnership with Best Buy provides the ultimate platform for truly bringing these landmark innovations to the masses."
