MEMPHIS, Tenn. and SEATTLE, June 10, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® raised $300,000 for children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases at the 11th running of the St. Jude Rock 'n' Roll Seattle Marathon & ½ Marathon.
This year 800 individuals registered as St. Jude Heroes, which means they fundraised for St. Jude while training for the marathon, half marathon and 5K. Since becoming title partner two years ago, St. Jude Heroes have raised nearly $500,000 to support the hospital's lifesaving mission: Finding cures. Saving children.®
Thanks to the dedication of St. Jude Heroes and generous donors, families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
"Thanks to the Seattle community and race participants from around the world – St. Jude Children's Research Hospital received heightened awareness while raising crucial funds to advance research and treatment for childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases," said Richard Shadyac Jr., President and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude. "We are so grateful for our St. Jude Heroes and our partnership with the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series for supporting the efforts of St. Jude to improve access and quality of care for children everywhere. Together, we will end childhood cancer."
Since the partnership with the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series and St. Jude began in January 2016, more than 35,000 St. Jude Heroes have participated in Rock 'n' Roll races nationwide and raised more than $17 million for the hospital.
St. Jude freely shares its groundbreaking discoveries, so that every child saved at St. Jude means doctors and scientists can use that knowledge to save thousands more around the world.
