3 Years Later, Weight Loss Surgery with Dr. Michael Feiz Continues to Produce Lots of Big Benefits, and One Wonderful Little Benefit, for Nicole Jones
With a new baby on the way and a happier and healthier life in full swing, Nicole is enjoying life as a thin person more than ever
LOS ANGELES, March 23, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Prior to her weight loss surgery three years ago, there were a number of things Nicole Jones simply didn't think of doing, and one of them was having a baby. Today, with a new little one on the way, the Southern California resident says she is enjoying her life more than ever; and she even feels she has a bit of an edge over other weight-conscious new mothers. It's all thanks to the disciplined approach to eating she acquired following her 2012 sleeve gastrectomy with Michael Feiz, M.D., F.A.C.S.
Prior to her surgery, Nicole, at 5'5", weighed 220 pounds and she'd tried every kind of traditional weight loss strategy. A few months shy of her 30th birthday, she was determined to make a big change through her surgery with Dr. Feiz. Over a period of roughly one year she lost 90 pounds and an astonishing 14 dress sizes, which she credits to her new relationship with food. Now, eating for her is primarily a matter of staying healthy, and no longer a form of recreation. Indeed, in the second trimester of her first pregnancy, Nicole is not suffering from the weight-related worries that plague so many pregnant women with concerns about obesity.
"Just before my pregnancy, I really was at the point where I would have to remind myself to eat. Now, it's a different ball game because, for one thing, eating regularly helps keep the nausea and morning sickness at bay. The doctors tell me that I really only need an additional 300 or so calories a day for the baby and I to be healthy. It's funny because I talk to women who are really surprised by that and talk about how they're 'eating for two', and I'm thinking that's why they're going to gain 65 pounds and I'm not. Obviously, at this point the baby doesn't need as many calories as a full grown person and I'm happy to say that my weight gain at this point is right on track to where the doctors say it should be," Nicole said.
While the pregnancy, and the morning sickness that comes with it, has put a slight damper on some of her physical activities, Nicole is hoping to resume a light schedule of the walks and photography she enjoys with her hiking enthusiast husband fairly soon. Still, there is no doubt in her mind that, without her extremely successful procedure with Dr. Feiz, she would still be childless and a lot less physically and emotionally healthy than she is today.
"The fact that I could accomplish this and get down to my target weight was an achievement that made me feel a lot better about myself. That's obviously giving me all kinds of pluses, including the baby more than anything else," Nicole said.
