3 Ways Poll Everywhere Is Changing the Presentation Game
New Q&A/Brainstorm feature empowers the audience to rank its own ideas, and gives the presenter complete control of the discussion.
SAN FRANCISCO, May 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- After learning Google Moderator would shut down on July 31st, Poll Everywhere released its own web-based solution for audience-moderated, crowdsourced feedback.
According to CTO Brad Gessler, the new feature was a natural next step, "We've offered open-response questions via SMS text and the web since 2008. We found the audience-ranked version to be an insanely valuable tool for us as a company, to consider everybody's ideas and float the best ones to the top for deeper discussion. Now we're releasing it to the public with a lot of polish, and moderation tools that keep the discussion moving in a positive direction."
Q&A/Brainstorm provides three game-changing capabilities for presenters, using the mobile devices they already have in their pockets.
- The power to identify and address what matters most
Once the topic is set, the audience can respond freely using mobile devices. Then they upvote or downvote each response, ranking ideas they value above ideas that aren't as important. All of these results update live, instantly. So in the time it would take one person to stand up and speak out, the presenter can see a prioritized list of ideas from everyone in attendance, and discuss accordingly. - Total control over the flow of discussion
Open mic Q&A sessions are unpredictable. Q&A/Brainstorm offers a set of moderation controls on each response, so that the presenter can quickly dismiss prank responses, or clear responses after they are addressed. Presenters can also pin a worthy idea to the top of the list, or highlight one idea at a time for discussion. - A treasure trove of data to pore over after the event
Responses from the audience, along with rankings, are saved long after the presentation ends. Presenters can use this information to tailor future lectures, conduct research, or to address concerns and questions by email at a later date.
Poll Everywhere has offered SMS-text and web-based audience response solutions since 2007. Presenters and educators can test drive Q&A/Brainstorm by signing up for an account at Poll Everywhere. A Moderator data import tool is available for former Moderator users.
